Is God Omnipotent?

Have you ever heard or asked the question...

If God is all powerful, then can He create a rock so heavy that He Himself can't lift it?

This question has been asked by atheists over the years and still today. Many people feel the question proves that God can't exist simply because they feel it can't be answered.

But the truth of the matter is it can be answered if we read our Bible. It clearly shows what God's powers are, and His limits.

While working on this sermon.  I found a Yahoo answer web page that had this question on it.  I was ashamed at the answers that were given.

As we start to digging into the Bible.  We see that there are two key teachings that this question hinges on.

1. God's Law stands forever
Psalm 111:7-8

The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

2. God cannot sin
I John 3:4

Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

Basically it comes down to the fact that if God creates a law.  That law stands forever. He can not go back on his law. Just like the law that when man sins he dies. God could not go back on His law, and end it when Adam and Eve sinned. He had to provide His only Son, Jesus Christ, to come to this world, and die.  So his followers can be saved.

To sum it all up.  If God, created a rock with the intent that He could never lift it.  Then God could not lift it. That rock could be as small as a grain of sand.

To answer the question:
Can God create a rock so heavy that he can't lift it?
Answer:
YES - Simply because he is an all powerful God, no one else can!

I recommend you listen to the sermon to get a full understanding of  this message.
